The People of the Book, by Geraldine Brooks

November 24, 2009

[Lesley]

What a great book! I listened to this and the reader was excellent — did an amazing job with the different voices/accents from different time periods and parts of the world.  (I downloaded it using the library’s downloadable audiobook service – cool!)
I was fascinated both by the profession of the main narrator (a book conservator) and by the history of the book (a haggadah). The stories of the characters were also interesting and emotionally resonant.
If you liked the Red Violin, The Source (Michener) or any stories following a theme or item over history, you should give this book a try.
